The Wrath of God Will Be Deserved
The
Apostle Paul said: Romans 1:18 "For the wrath of God is
revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and
unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in
unrighteousness. . ."
This
indicates that there are those who know the truth but will
not present it nor will they live it in their day to day
lives. Consider also Paul's writings in Colossian 3:5-6:
"Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth;
fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil
concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: For
which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children
of disobedience:. . ." and in Ephesians 5:3-6 "But
fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it
not be once named among you, as becometh saints; Neither
filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are
not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. For this ye
know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor
covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in
the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no man deceive you
with vain words: for because of these things cometh the
wrath of God upon the children of disobedience."
Paul
says because we are hard hearted and will not do "godly
deeds", then God's wrath is being "stored up" in us!
Romans
2:5-6 "But after thy hardness and impenitent heart
treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath
and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; Who will
render to every man according to his deeds:. . ."
Do you
think sin is a light thing? Do you think even your sin
AFTER you've been saved is a laughing matter? Consider
this: It was just ONE sin that brought judgment and death
to us all (Genesis 2:17, Romans 5:12). But you have
committed many more than one sin. It is likely and very
probable that you have committed thousands, perhaps tens
of thousands of sins. What do you suppose the judgment
and punishment should be for those?
Hebrews
10:26-27 For if we sin wilfully after that we have
received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no
more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for
of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the
adversaries.
Sin is
no laughing matter. A Christian who sins is worse than a
sinner who refuses to repent of his sin.
Hebrews
6:4-6 "For it is impossible for those who were once
enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and
were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted the
good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If
they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance;
seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh,
and put him to an open shame."
2 Peter
2:20-22 "For if after they have escaped the pollutions of
the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour
Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and
overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the
beginning. For it had been better for them not to have
known the way of righteousness, than, after they have
known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto
them. But it is happened unto them according to the true
proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the
sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire."
Hebrews
10:29 "Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he
be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of
God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith
he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite
unto the Spirit of grace?"
The
Wrath of God is fair, just, and eternal. It is terrible
and it is deserved because of sin.
The Wrath of God can be Escaped
1
Thessalonians 5:9 "For God hath not appointed us to
wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,.
. ."
The
wrath of God is escapable NOW. This does not mean you
will never suffer. This does not mean you will never be
persecuted, never be tortured or never be killed. What it
does mean is that you will never incur the wrath of God!
The
most tragic thing I can think of is that anyone having an
opportunity to escape the pollutions of this world, to
escape certain eternal judgment, death and fire, would
reject Jesus Christ, the ONLY hope of salvation. When
those people get to the end of the road, eternal wrath
will have been escapable. Unfortunately, at the end, it
will be too late to choose.
We have a redeemer who bought us with his own suffering
and bloodshed, won't you choose to repent and to serve
him today?
Galatians 3:13-14 "Christ hath redeemed us from the
curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is
written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles
through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise
of the Spirit through faith."
